We were inspired by our shared struggles to apply to the University of Washington, Seattle. Ayesha found it challenging being stuck at UW with a major she no longer wanted to do. Zainab was attempting to complete associates at Bellevue College but didn't know which career path to pick at UW. Elsie found picking a major from the long list at UW to be overwhelming. This is why we wanted to create a web application that would help high schoolers and transfer students with their process of applying to the University.
Husky Horizons fills the gap between the user and the experience of finding a major. Instead of being a stressful, confusing, and boring experience, we wanted to make an app where the user is able to navigate a journey of exploring the majors at UW with a career-first perspective. Many times we know what we want to achieve, but don't know the pathway to achieve it. This is why Husky Horizons uses Dubsie the puppy to help guide you though.
We built this app using Figma, an interactive design interface. The most challenging part was the limited time was had as we want to expand this quite a lot in the future. We are proud as working as a team and collaborating through Figma to create such a useful app (hopefully)! Our ultimate goal is for the University of Washington to use our product to achieve a successful preview of what the school has to offer.
