Inspiration

This project was inspired by a conversation with friends. One of the ladies in an hangout shared how she had a male friend who treated her exceptionally well, yet they were not in a relationship, she had unknowingly placed him in the “friend zone.” That moment sparked the idea for a story that explores unspoken love, emotional vulnerability, and the journey from friendship to something deeper.

What it does

Husband Material is a romantic narrative designed to help people recognize and express genuine affection before it’s too late. It encourages viewers to step out of the “friend zone” with confidence, communicate their feelings, and build a foundation for a meaningful, healthy relationship.

How we built it

We combined multiple AI technologies to bring this film to life. Viggle was used for motion capture. Flux AI generated the images and helped train a LoRA model based on our actors. Dzine.ai allowed us to transform actors into various outfits and 2D character styles. This multi-tool pipeline enabled us to blend motion, 2D visuals, and stylized elements into a cohesive storytelling experience.

Challenges we ran into

We faced a wide range of challenges while experimenting with new AI tools and techniques. Working with AI motion capture, 2D character generation, multiple camera angles, 3D elements, and layered visual effects pushed us into unexplored territory. However, each challenge became an opportunity to learn, innovate, and ultimately succeed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The project took over a month to complete, and we’re extremely proud that we were able to bring this ambitious idea to life. Creating a fully AI-assisted film from concept to completion was a significant milestone for our team.

What we learned

We developed new creative techniques, discovered methods that work—and those that don’t—and gained valuable skills throughout the process. Most importantly, we learned that while AI is a powerful tool for storytelling, traditional filmmaking principles and strong narrative understanding remain essential.

What's next for Husband Material

We are already working on new films and creative projects using everything we’ve learned. Our goal is to change the global narrative of Africa by using the power of AI to tell authentic, world-class stories.
