Hungee: Tinder for Food

Inspiration

In today's society, hunger is often about cravings rather than survival.
People want food that fits their mood, budget, and values — but finding it quickly can be frustrating.

We asked ourselves:
What if finding food was as simple and fun as swiping right?

What It Does

Hungee is “Tinder for food.” It connects users to:

Restaurants
Emotional values (comfort food, healthy eating, indulgence)

Whether you’re craving something casual or gourmet, Hungee helps you find your perfect food match instantly.

How We Built It

Frontend: ReactJS, HTML, CSS → intuitive swipe-style interface
Backend: Python + Flask
APIs: Google Place API for restaurant data
Database: Supabase for storage
Collaboration: GitHub for version control + teamwork

Challenges We Ran Into

Countless merge conflicts
API chaos — sometimes looping infinitely, other times failing completely
Time crunch made debugging harder than expected

I worked on the front-end using React Native and Expo Router. I set up the swipe feature for restaurants and connected it with the Google Places API to pull location data from the user and nearby spots.

I contributed to backend source code using Python and Flask and created a flow of data from the frontend JS to our Supabase DB.

Rahul Patel
I helped work on the backend, which used a combination of Flask for intermediary communication and Supabase as our primary database. Both methods were made using Python's requests library. Primary contributions were creating a "trade" api call between the Supabase and JS, and also partial Git management.

Sameer Pesari
I helped working on the front-end and used typescript for the following development. Implemented the Home page, loading page and the logo of our application.
