Inspiration
We realized that mainstream dating apps such as Bumble do not offer adequate matches who are in our league. We wanted to create an app that finally does justice to our superiority.
What it does
Humble is a sassy dating app game where you are only allowed to swipe left (thus rejecting the match). If you swipe left, you will see funny, encouraging memes and audio clips. However, if you attempt to swipe right, the app will prevent you from doing so and show you humiliating memes.
How we built it
We used React.js for frontend and Firebase for backend. We also used Python to scrape faces and names to populate our match pool.
Challenges we ran into
Every line of code took four hours of StackOverflow and documentation and Ryan. "You faaaaailure." - Jimmy O. Yang
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're really proud of implementing swipable cards of scraped faces and names, dark mode, selecting from two pools of visuals and audios depending on the swipe direction, creating a disappearing pop up message from scratch.
What we learned
Frontend development may not in our best career interest.
