Inspiration
Keeping plants alive is a hard task. HPI allows your plant to talk to you about its needs.
What it does
HPI keeps track of your plant's water level, temperature, humidity, and amount of light. From this, the system determines the plant's emotion and generates a quote for the plant to display. It also has cute eyes :3
How we built it
An Arduino manages collecting data, displaying the eyes, and showing the text. A Raspberry Pi 5 runs Llama to generate quotes, and keeps track of your plants. A (currently unfinished) iOS app lets you manage your plants.
Challenges we ran into
- The gauntlet of getting a Raspberry Pi connected to the internet
- Making the eyes actually look good
- Communication between the Arduino and Pi
- Sleep deprivation
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- The fact that it actually kind of works
- "Fantastic hardware-based UI"
What we learned
- Python is a pain
- Raspberry Pi 5s are useless for GPIO
What's next for Human Plant Interaction
- Actually finish the app lol
