Inspiration
Helping people with eating disorders. ( Approximately 1/10 people suffer from one at some point in their lives!)
What it does
We wanted to help people be more consistent with their eating habits and gamify their nutritional goals. In our app, the user is responsible for taking care of their pet. The pet has a bar that decreases when the user misses meals, making the pet sad or hungry. The user needs to upload an image to confirm that they have eaten an adequate meal on time.
How we built it
We used React to create a frontend and express to set up a backend server. The client makes a request whenever an image is submitted and the API is used to determine whether or not the image contains food.
Challenges we ran into
API was not compatible with ES6 so we had to move to React and use Node.js. Implementing LogMeal API. Several front end visual issues. Countdown issues regarding time and resets.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Interactive and appealing frontend, with smooth transitions. Group members quickly learned JS, html, CSS as needed for the project. Completion of a viable project within the given time. Having fun at workshops (Cup Stacking Champions that can also handle HOT WINGS).
What we learned
How to use react. Why ES6 doesn't work with certain API's. How to implement an API that uses AI recognition. How to smooth out transitions in CSS. How to bring a web app from conception to completion as a team. Mentors are homies <3
What's next for HTN Food
