Inspiration
As one of our first hackathons, we weren't sure on what to make, how to make it, and if our ideas were going to be unique enough. That's when we decided that instead of worrying about it so much, we wouldn't make that mistake again and slapped together any goofy idea to get the ball rolling. This is how we started on Booty Rush, a gambling game.
What it does
It teaches people about the dangerous of gambling and how to spend your money wisely, since excessive gambling almost always ends terribly.
How we built it
We first tried to develop it in React, however we decided that if we wanted to accommodate to all of our team members, we needed to keep it short and simple, and learn as we went. Our project mainly utilized HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
As mentioned before, it was an daunting task to settle on an idea that all of our team members felt comfortable and motivated to work on, especially as something as silly as Booty Rush. This unfortunately led to one of our team members to diverge from our initial plans, and mutually agreed that this was best for both parties if we wanted to accomplish something this hackathon. Regardless, we pushed forward, and developed a project we could comfortably officially turn in as a submission.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite minor disagreements, countless periods of doubt and demotivation, and lack of experience in working with teams particularly with git, we persevered and developed our very first submission for any hackathon.
What we learned
It is important to think about what will boost or destroy team morale, but most importantly, important to never give up, even if you believe what you are developing is silly or "not good enough".
What's next for BootyRush
As we grow as programmers and students, we'll continue to refine and develop our current games for BootyRush, enhance its functionalities, and ultimately make new games similar to the ones we see in person. We can have twists where real gambling tricks used in real life are shown to you, so you see the dangers of reckless gambling.
