Inspiration

In the interconnected world of today where travel is ubiquitous, currency exchange is essential to staying on top of things. Hoos Converting Money? seeks to streamline this process and make dealing with various currencies hassle-free, leaving additional time for more meaningful travel experiences. As a team with international origins, understanding purchasing powers also improves awareness of global affairs.

What it does

Hoos Converting Money? is a web application that converts currency values between two countries. Users can reverse the conversion and choose conversions from 175+ countries, along with their flags.

How we built it

The application was built with a combination of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. To retrieve flags and conversion rates, the CountryFlagsAPI and ExchangeRateAPIs were used.

Challenges we ran into

For many of us, this was our first major project involving JavaScript. Although we have previous experience with APIs, translating this knowledge and making API calls in JavaScript required additional focus. A second challenged we faced was our design implementation with CSS and creating a aesthetically pleasing site.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our proudest achievements include the integration of our two APIs in our user interface and the structure of our website.

What we learned

As a proper introduction to web development, we learned much of the basics in creating, testing, and debugging a full web application. This included working in a group and performing version control with software such as Git/GitHub.

What's next for Hoos Converting Money?

With more time, we would like to expand upon the information provided with each country. This would include incorporating full names of each currency and their respective country, as well as charts demonstrating the fluctuations of the currency's value over time.
