Inspiration
We were inspired by the recycling initiatives at UVA by the sustainability office. They have implemented colored bins and taken into consideration the labeling on them to make correct recycling as intuitive as possible. We wanted to extend this to Charlottesville and created HooRecycles to simplify these rules and encourage proper recycling practices.
What It Does
HooRecycles offers a step-by-step questionnaire that helps users identify their items and learn the correct way to recycle them locally, starting with general questions and moving to specific material types.
How We Built It
The project was built using HTML. Tasks were divided among team members focusing on research, web development, and content creation.
Challenges We Ran Into
Our main challenge was designing an intuitive user interface, as none of us had prior experience in HCI or UX. We relied on online resources and iterative feedback to improve our design.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
We're proud of developing an intuitive layout, which has the potential to significantly impact local recycling habits positively.
What We Learned
This project enhanced our skills in web development and introduced us to the essentials of user-centered design.
What's Next for HooRecycles?
We plan to include more types of recyclable materials and refine the html code.
