Inspiration
Food is part of our culture, and culture brings people together. In this modern era of digital relationships, bonding over food is an opportunity for meaningful connections.
What it does
HoneyBites is a dating app that lets you search for people with the same food preferences as you. If you love Thai food, you can add that preference into the app and be matched with other people who are lovers of Thai food. You after you have added your favorite foods, you are presented with a list of people to
How we built it
We started with learning OpenAI and determining which cuisine each food item is from. We also learned MongoDB to store our user information and app data. We delegated our work between the four of us with clear responsibilities laid out. We collaborated together to help each other with more difficult project and made sure to take the occasional wellness break as well.
Challenges we ran into
As this was our first time using MongoDB and the Flask API, there was a noticeable learning curve. With our combined past experiences and with the help of online resources, we overcame this hurdle and started making progress. Towards the end of the development, we noticed that the app's front end did not look quite as impressive as its' back end. Fixing this took a much longer time than we expected and it is something we can still improve on.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud of our innovative idea and our use of artificial intelligence.
What we learned
We learned a new python framework, Flask. Flask is the easiest and one of the most powerful frameworks that python offers. It empowers our creative thinking and allows our imagination to truly run free and create anything.
What's next for HoneyBites
First and foremost, further refining the user experience and interface would be crucial. Enhancing the frontend to match the innovation of the backend would make the app even more attractive and user-friendly. Additionally, we would like to have a more secure database that has some kind of verification to stop users from information-bombing our database.
