My dad would always yell at me during my childhood for not knowing how to build things

What it does

This projects walks the user through planning and executing a home improvement project. It builds a plan from the user's specifications and requirements, which includes an overview, material list, and step-by-step guide. The application will also search material prices at local stores and determine the store with the lowest cost to acquire all necessary materials. It will also display a list of several local hardware stores for the user's reference.

How we built it

We built this on the Google Breadboard platform. We wrote some custom JavaScript code for APIs that weren't built-in.

We ran into challenges getting the Gemini AI to give the desired output.

We learned how to use Google Breadboard and use it to pull data from different APIs.

What's next for Home Improvement Helper

We will have a system to store each individual plan, and have the AI determine which order to complete them. There will also be a feature to ask the AI about materials or steps.
