Inspiration

Going into this project, I wanted to make sure I utilized plenty of javascript since that's something I'm trying to practice. I had come across the arrow-key movement feature a little bit prior; so I decided to incorporate this practice into something both interesting and important: bees and their survival.

What it does

At the moment, the project allows control over a bee sprite over a handmade backdrop. There is a pollen-collecting feature that should serve as one of the main gameplay aspects. All this is not to belittle the importance of the infographics that appear at the end of each level. These infographics detail important facts that not only educate admist a gaming experience, but also present a sort of reward at the end of a level.

How I built it

I created most of the view with HTML CSS and added functionality with javascript. I utilized figma for designs of the stages of the project and google images and dall e for my images and sprites.

Challenges we ran into

There were two main challenges for me. Firstly and expectedly I had trouble with the javascript and had to utilize the webdeveloper tool on firefox for tedious debugging. The other, more unexpected challenge was created the backgrounds for the stages. You would think these would be easy since there basically headers divs and footers but the images that compose them are several layered next to each other. So formatting that took decently long.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Im mostly proud of taking this opportunity in a more lighthearted and fun way. While making it I was more focused on completing a decent project for myself and my level of skill vs showing talent

What we learned

I learned about the project building process and the phases it takes

What's next for Hive Havoc

I am going to be incorporating several gameplay elements and functionalities, I would like the pollen to move, disappear, reapear so completing a level is more difficult. I would also like more flowers and pollen to show up to complicate levels and add depth. Finally adding stuff like wasps as antagonists would definitely come later down the line.
