Inspiration

I have had experience (bad experience) using the Facebook group for sharing rides to and from where I live. I have had awkward fallouts and trouble just finding someone going to the same area. So, why not make an app that automatically matches me with people who are trying to carpool? My idea was born.

What it does

My app basically creates users based off if they need a ride or are driving, asks some important questions about the user, such as where they are going, when they are leaving, how far of a radius are you willing to find rides in, etc. Then, it stores users in a database and finds other people who match your descriptions!

How I built it

I used Andriod studio for the first time.

Challenges I ran into

Andriod studio can be very hard to format nicely. I never have really dealt with UI so that was a first. Also, while I have an idea of how it would work, I did not have enough time to implement a database.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm proud of having learned how Andriod studio works. I did not know that each page was an "activity" or that there's java used. It was also fun to play around with the layout.

What I learned

I learned how to make a simple app for andriod, and I think I can continue to build better apps with this new thing.

What's next for Hitchhiker App

I think I may want to continue with it, whether it be for the pitt app challenge, or something else just for fun. I do like the idea of trying to finish this!
