We help deliver packages on the same day or one day from across the world by using a decentralised community network that carries packages wherever they are travelling from one place to another.

Inspiration

The total greenhouse gasses produced by the shipping industry is over 3%, equivalent to the total greenhouse gasses produced by the aviation industry. We wanted to make it more efficient and faster to send stuff they want to ship immediately.

What it does

Our app provides people with a service to send packages across the world with same-day or next-day delivery at cheaper rates than any traditional shipping. We use our platform to connect senders(who want to send packages) with travellers(travelling to a place) of the same destination. We use blockchain to store all reviews of both senders and travellers, with the service to hold funds until the task is complete.

How we built it

We used react to build the front-end with MongoDB, Node and Express as the backend for our project. The react app interacts via an API with MongoDB, Node and Express as to store data and Solana is used for transactions.

Challenges we ran into

Making everything from scratch with no knowledge of Solana at all was very hard.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The Service that it enables for people is amazing!! as it helps them to send packages on the same day or the next day at a fraction of the cost and it is even better for the environment.

What we learned

Time management is very important, we had to stay focused on creating a minimum viable product before we created additional features.

What's next for htch_hike

We believe hitch_hike has a lot of potential and look forward to building it in the real world, as it is something that can have a good impact on the whole world.
