Inspiration
The inspiration for Heritage came from our deep appreciation for the rich cultural diversity that exists across the African continent and around the world. Indigenous languages and cultures are precious threads in the tapestry of human experience, and we felt a calling to help preserve and celebrate them.
Growing up, we were fortunate to be exposed to multiple languages and cultural traditions. This opened our eyes to the beauty and wisdom contained within each unique heritage. However, we also witnessed how forces like globalization and assimilation were threatening the survival of many indigenous ways of life.
We wanted to create a platform that could safeguard this invaluable cultural knowledge and pass it on to future generations. Heritage is my attempt to leverage the power of technology in service of this vital cause.
What it does
Heritage uses the power of Gemini AI to help answer questions one might have about a specific tribe and can translate and teach its user about that language.
How we built it
We built this application using nodejs, javascript, html and css couples with gemini api
Challenges we ran into
We could not figure out how to deploy the application on google cloud due to time constraints and expertise in that area.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting that return from gemini through our application made us incredibly happy with the progress we made in our development journey and our team work during the process was greatly improved.
What we learned
We learned how to integrate AI to our application and we made it work which was one of the things we were proud of.
What's next for Hetitage
We will keep developing the application to make it better since it still has a long way to go as we are looking to implement the ai using ussd due to the majority of our users might not be on the web and it would be incredible if they can have access to the heritage bot through ussd and two way sms. We are looking to build a mobile application much like duolingo but for indeginous languages in Africa.
WIsh us all the best.
