Inspiration
The struggles of women and girls to get access to personalized and complete health resources were real-perpetual problems for our motivation in this project. We foresaw a strong potential of AI: to close the gap in knowledge, make information timely, and enable users to take control of their well-being. That was how we envisioned creating meaningful involvement. We sought to develop a solution that surpasses the conventional resources in delivering personalized insights and health tracking, supportive communities, and practical tools for self-care. These are some of the barriers we would want to address amidst the project and tap into ways technology could allow for a healthier, better-informed future for women and girls everywhere.
What it does
HerHealth is a women-centered app that combines AI and community support to promote proactive and informed health management.
- Period Tracker: A Gemini-powered feature that allows users to monitor their menstrual cycles, providing personalized insights and reminders.
- Symptom Tracker: Users can log symptoms, gain insights on recurring patterns, and receive tailored health advice through the Gemini API.
- Mood Tracker: Also supported by Gemini, this feature helps users track their emotional well-being and recognize trends over time.
- Health Facts Page: A dedicated section for curated health information, empowering users with knowledge on various topics.
- Goals Page: Users can set, track, and complete health and wellness goals, encouraging consistency and self-care.
How we built it
We built HerHealth as a comprehensive platform using key technologies:
Frontend: Designed with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create a clear, user-friendly interface. Framework: Implemented React Native for responsive and efficient performance across devices. Gemini API Integration: Used Gemini API to enhance core features like the period tracker, symptom tracker, and mood tracker, providing tailored health insights for users. Deployment: Launched on Netlify to ensure a stable, fast, and accessible user experience.
Challenges we ran into
We faced challenges integrating the Gemini API seamlessly with our React Native framework, requiring adjustments for compatibility and optimal performance across features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We feel proud to have created an app that doesn't only cover essential facets of women's health, such as period tracking, symptom and mood logging, and personalized goal-setting, but empowers them in taking responsibility for their well-being through the most intuitive and accessible medium. The app enables the empowerment and self-determination of women through the fact that tools this digital space embeds support their physical and emotional health.
What we learned
During this project, we came across the fact that it is important to design a tool whose usability is user-centered, with the central need in health and well-being for women. We widened our abilities on the integration of APIs using React Native and development of responsive and accessible features; this was for smoothness in user experience. We also received invaluable insights into managing real-time data and deploying web apps on Netlify.
What's next for HerHealth
Next, we aim to expand HerHealth by adding personalized wellness recommendations, integrating community support features, and creating educational resources on women’s health topics. We’re also planning to enhance the goal-setting functionality to include reminders and progress tracking, empowering users to stay on top of their health and wellness goals.
