Inspiration

Being stuck at home for the past 1.5 years has taken a toll on our health, both mentally and physically. Studies have shown that people, especially women, have become more depressed, isolated, stressed, and anxious. This is why we decided to focus on improving mental health and female empowerment through our web-app.

What it does

The Hera website gives the user a prompt to complete each day. The user can choose what theme or goal they would like to work towards for the year, such as female empowerment, self-esteem, or physical wellbeing. With these daily tasks, users are encouraged to improve their health and asked to either submit a picture or write a description of how they completed the task so that they can reflect on that day at the end of the year.

How we built it

The Hera website is built with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Firebase. Our frontend is designed with Figma and written in HTML and CSS. Our backend is written with JavaScript and Firebase.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were related to the login system, both with using Firebase and integrating it into the website, as we had never done it before. After doing some research and collaborating, we were able to figure it out!

Accomplishments and what we learned

We learned how to code a login and authentication system with Firebase, and how to integrate all the different aspects of our web-app. We also learned the basics of new languages from one another by working together and sharing what we know. When researching our topic, we also learned the importance of mental health and how much the pandemic affected it, and we hope our project would make a big impact to change the decline in emotional wellbeing.

What's next for Hera

We hope to expand our web-app by possibly creating a mobile app so users have easier access to our service every day. In addition, we hope to add a community feature where users can talk to other users and see how they completed their tasks of the day, which can in turn motivate the user to do more and share their experience. Overall, we hope to create a safe space where females feel comfortable to motivate each other to continually improve and grow.
