Reviving Community Spirit with Helping Hands
In the modern age, the sense of community is fading. Once, tightly knit communities thrived by working together, sharing in each other’s lives through jobs, neighborhoods, and public events. These interactions fostered strong bonds and mutual support. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically reduced these opportunities, pushing us into isolated, online interactions and away from real-world connections. This shift has led to a decline in community engagement, weakened communication, and a lack of access to communal activities, eroding trust and driving us apart.
It’s time to reverse this trend.
Introducing Helping Hands – our innovative platform designed to reconnect people and rebuild community spirit. Helping Hands empowers individuals and organizations to seek and offer help within their local communities. Whether it’s organizing a community event, assisting an elderly neighbor with yard work, or any other act of kindness, our platform makes it easy to post requests, specify the time and number of volunteers needed, and connect with those nearby.
Small actions can lead to big changes. By participating in these local initiatives, we can strengthen our connections, foster trust, and create a more cohesive community.
The power to make your community and the world a better place is now within your Helping Hands.
Our Story:
Navigating the difficulty of securing volunteering opportunities within our community where we feel as though we are truly making a difference played a significant role of our middle school and high school experience . This is because you would have to actively search for and reach out to different companies to try to get these volunteering opportunities. Our objective was to create a website to efficiently find these volunteering possibilities by showing different listings in our area. Some of our inspirations for the website were different job/volunteer websites , like indeed and signofgenius. We learned things like Chakra-UI, React, and JavaScript during our time. We built our project using React, Express, Node, and MongoDB. Some challenges we faced were a lack of previous knowledge of such things.
