Inspiration
I love building games and I love making my real-life tasks into games. Pokemon Go was actually the first thing I thought of when I read the prompt because it got people moving without them even noticing. I wanted to emulate that in my project.
What it does
This prototype runs through the tutorial of the game, Helluva Healthy Engineer. It shows you what you can do to build Georgia Tech and make it a beautiful place to be. By walking and physically moving, you unlock different places on campus. By cleaning up campus in the real world, you acquire flowers and trees you can plant in the game. By being a positive and inclusive peer, you attract more positive and inclusive peers just like yourself to your virtual campus. Gamifying ways to improve physical, mental, social, and environmental health makes it a fun way to make Georgia Tech a healthier place for all.
How I built it
I built a prototype of the game tutorial on Sketch and I ended up converting the Sketch file to Figma for a shareable link.
Challenges I ran into
For the majority of the night, I was trying to get the prototype into a functional app with React Native. After finding it difficult to even change from one screen to another, I decided to up the functionality of the prototype. React Native will have to be a challenge I tackle in the future.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that I got this all together.
What we learned
I learned how to organize and optimize my development process. Setting deadlines and specific deliverables for those deadlines made the project more concrete and not this blurred abstract idea.
What's next for Helluva Healthy Engineer
I would like to actually make this a working mobile game. I think it would be fun to play with the Apple Developer API. React Native also seemed like a cool technology I can put in my toolkit.
NOTE
Figma has a more share friendly system than Sketch. I recommend using the Figma link so you can go through it online. Through the conversion, however, the fonts have changed. Functionality is still the same. I attached my original work on Sketch so you can view my work online. But, you would need Sketch on your computer in order to run the prototype.
