A Universal Payment receipt announcement solution (i.e. DeFi and centralised finance systems) that works on Web, Smartphones, Feature Phones and also a custom sound box (using esp32 micro controller)

Inspiration

Sound box has been a great innovation in the industry of payments giving audible feedback to merchants and customers without having to check their devices. But as time passes, it just comes to realize that this makes the merchant dependent on payment gateway (PG) providers. And if the merchant decide to leave the PG service. The sound box is useless. Moreover, the wastage of resources (including the hardware behind it). The inspiration was to use any existing device that could generate the announcement and at the same time affordable and easily switchable to another PG.

Hello Merchant is a SaaS open source solution that aims to bring the capabilities of sound box to the every day device we use or even old device. In addition, Hello Merchant is PG neutral, meaning, you can easily switch from between merchants.

What it does

Hello Merchant is a software solution that aims to;

  1. Eliminate / reduce the use of sound box.
  2. Make merchants free from payment gateway providers hassles to switch
  3. Contribute to ecology by making use of old devices

It integrates with ecosystem like XRPL (DeFi) and Squareup APIs to listen for payment events. Moreover additional PG integrations are on the way.

How we built it

At present the Hello Merchant is available as a web application, with roadmap to build mobile app, app on Kai OS which is popular among low income merchants and also a esp32 based M5 atom echo hardware for those who still prefer a separate sound box.

Challenges we ran into

Having no business bank account and PAN, onboarding on merchants websites is difficult.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Working with just a couple of integrations, there are many more on the way. However, contributing to using less sound boxes in future is a hope that I would be proud of.

What we learned

Using Pangea Cloud, many activities of building a secured application are taken care of while the developers are architects can focus write their core business logic.

What's next for Hello Merchants

While more integrations are planned. The thought can be extended to other activities like imagine the amazon merchant getting an alert of a new order arriving or a new online appointment has been scheduled on google calendar for a merchant.

If I would just focus on the announcement piece, then celebrity voice, custom text, and movie dialogues (to add humor) would fall on my list too.
