Inspiration
Having seen the spike in mental health issues in our local community, Singapore, it sparked us to create this application to let them know that they are not alone in this battle, and that we are Hear For Them.
What it does
In this application, we have 3 main features in an all-in-one application. We boast features such as audio therapy, connecting available users to listening ears, or the other way around and a self-care checklist.
How we built it
We did up the prototype using Figma to get an overview of how the application would turn out.
Challenges we ran into
Time was a huge constraint thus identifying the key features were the most crucial portion of the development. We needed to ensure that the features tackled the source of the problem.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the time-constraint, we were able to complete the full user interface which includes navigation between screens.
What we learned
The importance of effective communication when working with a team, especially when the team was only formed on the morning of Hackathon. Conflicts were bound to happen but were mediated immediately to not waste further time on things that were irrelevant to our application. We also realised that mental health issues is not a common topic among Singaporeans, possibly due to its sensitive nature and it was evident when we were doing preliminary research for "Hear For You".
What's next for Hear For You
Since the user interface has been well designed, plans have already been started to fully work on this application using react native and firebase as the partnership between us, 2 strangers, went well.
