Inspiration
To design the product, we initiated the process by creating a prototype in Figma. For the data analysis and implementation of code, Java was employed to store user profile information and identify matched users with similar backgrounds or facing comparable mental health challenges. The final step involved utilizing Java Swing to display the product prototype with the integrated matching-user feature
What it does
The objective of our app is to connect users with licensed social workers and chat rooms based on their moods and feelings such as depression, eating disorders, or significant life events. The app includes features such as mental health prevention around the user's neighborhood/city and a chat room for users to connect with others who have similar feelings or moods.
The app collects data through keyword analysis of the community chat and uses that data to inform hospitals and politicians about the data impacting their community. Hospitals can then build programs based on the app’s data.
The ultimate goal is to prevent mental health crises decrease suicides and inform hospitals and politicians about the mental health issues affecting their community.
How we built it
To design the product, we initiated the process by creating a prototype in Figma. For the data analysis and implementation of code, Java was employed to store user profile information and identify matched users with similar backgrounds or facing comparable mental health challenges. The final step involved utilizing Java Swing to display the product prototype with the integrated matching-user feature
Challenges we ran into
We encountered difficulties in conceptualizing the app during the coding phase. Given our limited familiarity with front-end coding and web development, we opted for Java, specifically using Java Swing, to build and showcase the application. We aim to facilitate connections between individuals dealing with mental health concerns and provide a platform for mutual support by connecting users with similar backgrounds and facing similar issues. The coding challenge arose when integrating user-uploaded profile data and analyzing the profile information.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
In our project, we embraced this learning experience with tools such as Figma and Java Swing. Collaboration provided the inspiration for the app, since every individual's mood changes continuously, as stress and concern are common concerns among college students. Our mental health app has the potential to impact social policy, unlike other apps that store user data solely for profit. Through this dynamic environment, we were able to motivate each team member throughout the project to challenge themselves and learn new skills.
What we learned
How can we use the data to get paid and generate revenue and as a group we were thinking of ways to monetize the data to technology that can be used as a preventative measure.
What's next for HealthyMindSpace
What's next for the app is to continue to use data and connect with partners like local community health organize to implement policies with data and hospitals and to raise member growth with advertisements and promotion on social media
