Inspiration
Health and finance are both a crucial aspect to Huskies at Northeastern. We noticed that as the school year goes on, it can be especially difficult to manage what you're eating and how many dining dollars you're spending.
What it does
Healthy Huskies is a 3 in 1 app that generates a meal every day based on the dining hall menu, dietary restrictions, and diet preferences. It asks for when you woke up so it can generate meals accordingly, fulfilling nutrition goals even if you missed breakfast. Our financing tool tracks dining dollars and meal swipes, giving you an efficient semester plan of how you can distribute them. Lastly, our efficient card swipe feature allows you to swipe in efficiently without having to wait for the in person scanner, which requires a long wait time.
How we built it
We scraped data through JSON L files, analyzing them while extracting key information. This included where you spent your dining dollars the most, how many swipes you have left for the week, and how much you've used the past week. Using this, we created suggested plans for both dining budgeting and dining meals.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges we ran into included scraping real time data from official Northeastern websites as well as making websites reactive. Another issue we ran into was connecting all 3 aspects of our website at the end since we split up and each worked on a different section of the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're extremely proud of the end app that has all 3 functions implemented. It would've been impossible if we hadn't worked together, but because we had good communication and helped each other despite it being our first time at a hackathon or creating an app in general, we did well at having a developed end product.
