Inspiration

Our inspiration stems from the pressing need to address global waste management challenges. We are driven by the desire to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools to make meaningful contributions to environmental conservation.

What it does

RecycleAI is a comprehensive web application that facilitates smart recycling practices. Users can scan images to identify recyclable materials and access guidance on proper recycling methods. Additionally, the platform offers inspiration through creative repurposing ideas.

How we built it

We leveraged Anvil, a user-friendly Python web development platform, to create RecycleAI. By integrating PyTorch's image classification model, trained on a Kaggle garbage dataset, we enabled accurate identification of recyclable items. HTML and CSS were utilized for website design, while GitHub Pages served as the hosting platform.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge we encountered was integrating the AI model seamlessly into the web application. Additionally, ensuring the accuracy of material identification posed technical hurdles that required innovative solutions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have successfully developed a user-friendly and impactful solution to promote recycling awareness. Our collaboration and perseverance enabled us to overcome technical challenges and deliver a functional product that can drive positive environmental change.

What we learned

Throughout the development process, we gained valuable insights into the potential of AI in waste management and the importance of user-centered design in creating accessible educational tools. We also honed our skills in web development and collaboration.

What's next for RecycleAI

In the future, we aim to enhance the functionality of RecycleAI by incorporating additional features such as real-time recycling tips, community forums, and gamified challenges to further engage users in sustainable practices. We also plan to expand our dataset and refine the AI model to improve accuracy and versatility.
