Telus Challenge

We want to find innovative ways to drive positive change and improve health of people.

Inspiration

As a student who has to type a lot of paper documents for research and work with a computer daily, I discover that I start having some symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. The symptoms are numbness, tingling, and weakness in hands and arms. This was caused because of repetitive activities with hands such as typing or clicking mouses.

Because of the above health issue, I am thinking of ways to help not only me but also other people who work a lot with their hands to reduce the pain and recover from this health issue. Thus, "A Hope of Healing" was produced.

What it does

The site helps people train their hand movements. We developed AI models for people to train their hands movements and help them recover from carpal tunnel. Further, the site offers transcribed audio that transcribes from speech to text. Users can copy the notes and store them in Google Firebase. Further, users can contact our site through calling our Twilio phone number and leave recorded messages to us or by sending us text messages. When they text our phone number. Our Twilio bot will automatically gather contact info of the customers such as phone number, last name, and first name for further contact.

How we built it

  • We built with AI to transcribes audio from speech to text.
  • We used Google MediaPipe and OpenCV to build our machine learning hand training model
  • We used CSS, HTML, Javascript to build our website.
  • We built our automatic customer's replies through Twilio

Challenges we ran into

We had challenges to make the AI code work . Further, we had to put things to order and make the site work, so there were a lot of obstacles that we had to overcome to finish this project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to deliver the whole project with different functions.

What we learned

We learnt about transcribing AI and it was our first time building a hand training model. It was tough but it was fun as well.

What's next for Healing

We would like to offer the ability to train other functions of the body.
