Inspiration

As younger people, we want to make people aware about the importance about their environment, and how treating others with respect is an important part of improving it.

What it does

HawkStainable is a website with a chatbot that can answer questions about environmental injustice and sustainability, as well as a place to find resources that can help you learn more about the issues in your area and what you can do.

How we built it

Basic HTML/CSS/Javascript frontend served statically through a Spring-Boot Java backend. For the chatbot, we used the OpenAI API and trained it with data from various articles.

Challenges we ran into

Training the bot to give good responses was especially tough, we also wanted to create a game aspect of it but didn't have time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We feel that our UI is fairly impressive, and feel somewhat good about how the chatbot (Hawky) turned out, even if it's not perfect

What we learned

How much potential there is even with just a raw html/Javascript/CSS frontend. We also learned more about how AI is trained.

What's next for HawkStainable

We want to add a forum that allows people to discuss issues about environmental injustice in their area, which can also train the chatbot. We also want to add a game aspect to draw more people to be involved.
