HappiNest

Inspiration

We were looking for OpenData to use in Rochester. We came across a lot of data on childcare services and decided to challenge ourselves to organize and compartmentalize the data with the goal of making this information more accessible to parents and the community.

What it does

Our web app takes data from the Socrata OpenData API. We present information about local childcare services including the name of the organization, the address, the contact information of the individuals who work there, and governmental resources including further data about specific services. We express this information on a map configured to the user's location, and allow parents to make a well-informed decision.

How we built it

MongoDB Stitch for backend with React frontend, we also used Leaflet.js for our map.

Challenges we ran into

Connecting MongoDB, and learning to use React resources in tandem with our map.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting our map to work properly in tandem with different pop-ups, locations, and MongoDB.

What we learned

How to use React components, and how to utilize MongoDB Stitch as a full backend.

What's next for HappiNest

We plan to add a messenger service directly from the webpage between parents and individuals who work in childcare services, as well as a notification system and rating/review system for the community.
