Note: A video showcase of the game will be available soon 🎥. I am currently working on it ⏳, but due to time constraints, there might be a slight delay ⌛.
Description:
HandGame Arena is an exciting twist on the classic Rock-Paper-Scissors game, designed for fast-paced multiplayer battles. Players can create private or public rooms, invite friends, or compete with random challengers. Each round lasts 12 seconds, and only the winning choice advances to the next round. The last player standing claims victory!
Tech Stack:
- Frontend: React (using Reddit’s WebView template)
- Backend: Node.js with TypeScript
- Real-time Communication: WebSockets (unfortunately not supported on Reddit yet 😅)
Challenges & Learning:
Joining the Reddit hackathon pushed me to step out of my comfort zone. As a mobile developer, I had little experience with web technologies, but I took this as an opportunity to learn React, CSS, and HTML. Though WebSockets are not currently supported in Devvit, this journey was valuable, and I’m looking forward to future improvements that could make real-time multiplayer games possible on Reddit.
Next Steps:
If WebSockets become available in Devvit, I’d love to bring this game to life on Reddit. Until then, I’ll continue refining it and exploring alternative ways to integrate real-time gameplay.
Thanks, Reddit! 🚀
