Inspiration

  1. Not many people know how to recycle or donate electronic waste, having little accessibility to these resources. We wish to make such resources available to those who don't have them. We also want to recommend volunteering opportunities (to help the environment).

What it does

  1. Our website, Treefrog, connects those who have used electronics with those who don't.
  2. People can donate used electronics, while others can sign up to receive them.
  3. Our website also contains volunteering opportunities for those who are in need of service hours.
  4. Our website also scans for local recycling plants and shows greener alternatives to your groceries.

How we built it

  1. We built our website with HTML, JavaScript, CSS. We also used Firebase to store the data that we collect from our users, so we can use it for the purposes of our app.

Challenges we ran into

  1. We ran into trouble with some formatting of images, and tracking the location of the user. We also had a difficulty in connecting our website to google maps for our green business pages.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. This is some of our team's first time building a website, and we are proud to have gotten as far as we could and how much we have learning about coding and storing data in Firebase.

What we learned

  1. We learned how to store data in a database, resize images, and create a better website design. While most of us had a little experience in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, we have learned a lot about using them and have become much more comfortable with using them to make a website.

What's next for HackTJ Project

  1. Hopefully, we can find feedback for improving this website and we can make it more user-friendly. In addition, it would be wonderful to find a platform where we can implement this and make it a reality!
