How we built it
Our team's mission was to build a platform that could enhance the educational experience and contribute to a safer and more informed world. To achieve this, we used a variety of cutting-edge technologies and techniques to develop HackTheFeed.
Firstly, we leveraged the latest developments in AI technology, specifically OpenAI, to provide real-time personalized insights for all posts. This feature ensures that users stay informed and up-to-date on the latest cybersecurity news and best practices.
Moreover, we added a CAPTCHA verification when logging in and signing up for a new account using Cloudflare Turnstile. This ensures that the platform is secure and only accessible to authorized users, which enhances the safety of users' data.
We also added a comment section so users can discuss topics and share their views, which enhances the educational experience and fosters a sense of community. Additionally, we designed the platform using DaisyUI, which is a visually appealing and user-friendly component framework. This design ensures that the platform is easy to use and visually engaging, which makes the educational experience more enjoyable for users.
In terms of the technical aspect, we used Fastify and socket.io for the back end, which is a powerful and reliable solution. Additionally, we used JWT for authentication and sanitize-html for HTML sanitization of posts. Password requirements are also added by checking with https://haveibeenpwned.com/API/v2, ensuring that the platform is secure and accessible to authorized users only.
Overall, our team was dedicated to making HackTheFeed an outstanding and eye-catching platform that enhances the educational experience and contributes to a safer digital world. Join us in our mission to create a safer and more informed world through education technology.
Challenges we ran into
As a team, we were excited to take on the challenge of building a platform like HackTheFeed to enhance the educational experience of cybersecurity news and updates. However, we quickly realized that we were venturing into uncharted territory, and our lack of experience in certain areas became a significant challenge for us.
We had to spend a considerable amount of time watching YouTube videos and researching various topics related to building our platform. For example, we had to learn how to integrate OpenAI's streaming option, which was completely new to us. It was challenging to coordinate our efforts and make sure that everyone was on the same page.
Furthermore, we faced difficulties while configuring NGINX and fixing DNS issues with Cloudflare, which required us to spend even more time researching and troubleshooting. We were grateful for the vast resources available online, which we were able to leverage to overcome these challenges.
Despite the steep learning curve, we remained committed to the project and persevered through the obstacles we faced. We were able to rise to the challenge and create a platform that we are proud of. Our team learned new skills and gained invaluable experience in the process.
We believe that our experience demonstrates the importance of education in technology, as it is crucial to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and tools to succeed in today's world. We are excited to present our platform to the judges of the hackathon and demonstrate how our project can contribute to enhancing the educational experience of cybersecurity news and updates.
