Inspiration
Forming a team at a hackathon is harder than it should be. Participant lists, Discord channels, and team formation events rarely provide enough information to know whether someone is the right fit, and reaching out often feels awkward.
What it does
HackSwipe fixes this by bringing a Tinder-style experience to hackathon team formation. Hackers create a profile that showcases who they are, then swipe through others to quickly find people they genuinely want to team up with. When both sides express interest, it’s an instant match with clear contact info. No cold messages, no uncertainty. With HackSwipe, forming a team becomes faster, more intentional, and far less awkward.
How we built it
We used Firebase for a fast backend setup and React + Vite for the frontend.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was to make sure that our solution feel smooth and intuitive within the hackathon timeframe.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
That with HackSwipe, a problem is solved: 1 anyone build an effective team at the start of a hackathon 2 because profiles also show someone’s goals and vibe, you get more than a skills list—you get a personality snapshot 3 no need to wonder if reaching out to someone is the right idea. A match is a match.
What's next for HackSwipe
1 Make the system smarter by implementing ai powered filtering and ordering of profiles 2 Deploy it so that hackathons, but also other networking events and competitions can use it
