Hacking Adulthood

Inspiration

As first year college students, we wanted a user-friendly one-stop location for students to access general information about adulthood that is often not taught in school. Essentially, this is the website we wish we had during our first semester in college.

What it does

This website provides pages of general "adulting" information that are organized, quick, and easy to read.

How we built it

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap.

Implementing more user-interactive features and further developing the user-profile aspect of the site. Researching and adding more practical information that may help young adults function in life.

I learned HTML a couple years ago, but this was my first time working on a project using that language. I created the structure and format for the Financial, Cooking, Cleaning, Professionalism, Mental Health, and Status pages. I drew all the graphics including the logo and Status badges. I also helped finalize the design of our side-bar. I also learned CSS and contributed to the majority of the aesthetic elements of our website. I really enjoyed stylizing the website in a way that is both aesthetically pleasing but also user-friendly and clear to understand.

I created the Quiz page using CSS, JavaScript, and HTML. In addition, I wrote all the questions and answers that went with it. However, I wasn't able to figure out how to return quiz grades after hitting submit. I'd also like to figure out how to link the user scores to a ranking board to complete the interactive aspect of our website. I also researched the categories: Cooking, Finances, and Professional and wrote the text for each of the categories. I had a lot of fun writing sarcastic comments to make the text more engaging to read.

Olivia Chen
I created the HTML and CSS for the home page and the maps page. It initially took me some time to understand the syntax of HTML and CSS, but even more so how to utilize GitHub to our advantage. I got the idea for the maps page because I am a frequent traveler, and would love to see where in the world it would be practical to live. Although I wasn't able to finish the original function of the map, I was able to create a submit option that placed markers depending on the address you enter.

I researched for the category page "Cleaning" and wrote the text for it. I helped format the page for the categories "Cleaning" and "Professionalism" using HTML. I spent quite a bit of time learning how to use GitHub and pushing and pulling and am glad that I did - it was very helpful.
