Inspiration
Here in the Philippines, water issues like scarcity and inefficient use are becoming bigger problems. We wanted to do something about it and help people who want to make a difference by being smarter with their water usage. Our idea is to give people the tools to see how much water they’re using and how they can cut back. It’s all about making water data easy to understand so people can make better choices for the future.
What It Does
Our app gives users tips and recommendations for using water more sustainably and helps them set a budget to keep track of their usage and spending. We use smart water faucets and outlets (IoT devices) to monitor how much water is being used at home in real time. The app sends push notifications to let users know when faucets are running and how much water is being used. It also suggests practical water-saving ideas that they can easily implement at home to help them build better habits.
How We Built It
We used Figma and Canva to put together our prototype and make it look good. We dug into different vector libraries to find the right elements to create a simple, easy-to-use interface. The whole team worked together to map out the app’s features and make sure it’s not just nice to look at but also easy to navigate.
Challenges We Ran Into
Since we’re all beginners, learning how to use Canva and Figma properly took a lot of time and patience. We watched so many tutorials and tried out different things to nail down a design that looked good and worked well. Balancing this with our university classes was another big challenge. We had to juggle schoolwork, group meetings, and project deadlines, which was a bit crazy at times. But we kept each other motivated and organized, and we made it through!
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
We’re super proud of how the app's UI/UX turned out—it looks great and is really easy to use. The user experience was our top priority, and we think we nailed it. Even though we’re new to this, we managed to pull together a working prototype that fits the theme of sustainability perfectly.
What We Learned
We found out there are so many design libraries and resources out there that can really speed up app development and make things look polished. Learning how to use these tools and libraries was a game-changer for us. It helped us focus more on creativity and making something people would actually want to use.
What’s Next
Next up, we want to turn our prototype into a fully functioning app. The goal is to connect it with smart water faucets and other IoT devices to track water usage in real time. We also want to add support for different IoT water faucet trackers. Eventually, we hope to scale it up for a broader audience, from households to businesses, so more people can get on board with sustainable water management.
