Vision
Gutenberg invented the printing press in 1454. This was the first time in history you didn't need to be rich to have access to books. The printing press finally made knowledge accessible. Even to no coiners!
NFT Books are the next step in this evolution.
We're creating an easy way for everyone to become a creator. Whether through minting fresh genesis editions of original work or minting 1/1 copies with your personal notes and highlights. More shared knowledge creates an even brighter future.
Whats more valuable? An original copy of a book? Or an a copy filled with notes and highlights from Bill Gates
Inspiration
We were inspired to give ownership back to book authors using a fair royalty mechanism, while also creating new revenue streams for creators and thought leaders through a culture of shared knowledge.
What it does
Gutenberg NFT is a marketplace for original and annotated books with an integrated ePub reader that enables people to read alongside thought leaders using annotations stored on unique ERC721 NFTs.
How we built it
We used Solidity for the smart contracts and OpenZepellin to follow best practices to build our project. We used React and Moralis to connect it to the blockchain for the front-end. Also, we integrated book readers and annotation mechanism to mint exclusive ERC721 from ERC115s NFTs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created smart contracts to manage both the marketplace (create/sell and mint/buy ERC721 NFTs) and the collections for original book editions and custom ones with annotations. We also designed a seamless reader UX that makes it easy to read, annotate, and manage annotations
What we learned
We learned to combine different NFT standards into the one NFT marketplace, ERC1155 and ER721, and integrate Moralis to interact with the blockchain.
