Inspiration

Gardening supports the development of smart cities in various ways. They promote sustainable practices and local and fresh food access as well as have positive social, mental, and physical health impacts.

However, the lack of knowledge, limited space, rising food prices, excess crops, and lack of community are barriers for people that are willing to contribute to urban farming and gardening.

What it does

Our platform facilitates the connection between individuals seeking to rent land for the purpose of urban farming or gardening and experienced gardeners seeking land to cultivate crops. This creates opportunities for the promotion of urban farming and gardening practices, which can contribute to the growth of sustainable and locally sourced food products.

In addition to land rental, our platform also features a marketplace where experienced gardeners can sell their produce for monetary compensation. This provides an avenue for growers to monetize their skills and resources while also creating access to fresh and locally grown food for interested consumers.

To further support our community of gardeners, our platform includes forums where members can share knowledge, seek advice, and exchange ideas related to gardening practices. These forums serve as a valuable resource for members to deepen their understanding of gardening and to connect with like-minded individuals who share their passion for sustainable food production.

What's next for GrowMates: Future Developments & Expansion:

• Plot Planning: Choose plants from our database to virtually plan garden plots based on plot characteristics
• Threat Recognition: Identification/diagnosis of plant and animal threats and remedy suggestions
• Community Group Chat: Group chat function based for members who own plots on the same garden
