Inspiration
We began planning by thinking of problems which affected the average person. While we had several ideas, a solution regarding food waste seemed unique and unexplored.
What it does
GrocerAid is a manageable list of food items, which keeps track of expiry dates. Food items are listed vertically, with items at the top expiring more soon than below. Users are able to add items by adding a name and date, and items are removable with an X icon.
How we built it
We primarily used MERN stack to develop the back end, while using Figma to design the front end pages.
Challenges we ran into
Our group has never used MERN stack nor Figma before for any projects, meaning most of our time was spent learning the programs. Due to this, our time was constrained and we were unable to connect out front and back end together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to learn MERN stack and Figma to be able to create our product.
What we learned
We learned that we should familiarize ourselves with our tools better before using them in a hackathon.
What's next for GrocerAid
We initially planned to add a recipe browser, which incorporated OpenAPI. However, due to a paywall, we were unable to. Future additions could include connecting the front and back ends, as well as finding AI alternatives to complete the recipe browser.
