How we built it

  • Frontend was built upon React and Tailwind-CSS with assests being designed in Spline and Figma.
  • Backend was primarily done in NodeJS with database being MongoDB.
  • For ML model we used Python and Tensorflow.
  • Deployment was done in Render.

Challenges we ran into

We all ran into challenges and pushed are limits

  • As the hackathon was remote, Integrating frontend , backend and ML model was a big challenge as we all had done it on different computer and had to rely and trust on each other for this to work out.
  • Developing an app with so many features became pretty overwhelming for us . after making a messy structure for our application we all got back to basics of software development and were made to revise our university lecture on system design , class diagrams, and CS fundamentals 🥲
  • For Amit, it was his first time working with TailwindCSS which he learned in less than 3 hours
  • For Hitesh, managing the database of different schema became daunting which he tackled through design database from scratch after making a detailed relationship diagrams
  • For Gagan, As ML model was quite heavy he had to learn docker to deploy his ML pipeline.
  • For Abhishek, Authentication was taking quite some time for which he implemented 3rd party services to save time. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
  • We all learned something new and found new ways to collaborate
  • Developing an app that is user-friendly and intuitive, making it easy for small businesses to use.
  • Creating a successful and impactful app that addresses a pressing environmental issue and contributes to positive change.

What we learned

  • The value of collaboration.
  • The challenges and opportunities involved in developing an app for small businesses.
  • The importance of building a user-friendly and intuitive interface for an app.
  • The need for a sustainable business model for an app, and the challenges involved in developing one.
  • The potential for an app to drive positive change and support sustainable practices.

What's next for GreenUP

  • To market and promote the app to small businesses and communities, we could leverage community partnerships and networks, offer promotional discounts and incentives, develop engaging and informative content, engage with small businesses through social media, and collaborate with industry leaders and influencers.

Team

  • We were motivated by our shared passion for the environment and our belief that our app could make a real difference.
  • We had seen the impact of plastic waste on the environment and wanted to do something to help address the problem.
  • After conducting research and consulting with small business owners, we identified a need for a comprehensive and user-friendly app that would provide businesses with the tools, resources, and support they needed to reduce their plastic waste.
  • Our team worked closely together to develop the app, leveraging our individual expertise and experience to create a product that would be effective and valuable for small businesses.
