Inspiration
For the Flutter Global Gamers Challenge, our team sought to tackle the pressing issue of sustainable travel in a unique and engaging manner. We recognized the importance of educating individuals about eco-friendly transportation options in a fun and interactive way. Thus, the idea of GreenGlide was born – a runner game designed to promote sustainable travel practices while providing an entertaining gaming experience.
What it does
GreenGlide is not just your average endless runner game. It's an immersive platform where players embark on eco-conscious missions to reach their destinations. Throughout the game, users must make strategic decisions regarding their mode of transportation, selecting from a variety of options with differing carbon footprints. By choosing low-emission vehicles like metros or bicycles over high-emission ones such as cars or taxis, players can rack up scores and unlock rewards. But it's not just about the mode of transportation; factors like speed, collectibles, and overall efficiency also come into play. To achieve high scores, players must navigate the game world intelligently, making eco-friendly choices along the way.
How we built it
GreenGlide was brought to life using the versatile Flutter framework, with additional functionalities powered by the Flame library. We leveraged Firebase for seamless user management and Figma for crafting intuitive design elements. Integrating Google Wallet APIs allowed us to enhance the gaming experience with offer cards, adding another layer of engagement for players.
Challenges we ran into
Building GreenGlide presented its fair share of challenges, from managing numerous widgets on-screen to optimizing the performance of the Flame engine for our specific use case. Additionally, navigating the complexities of Google Wallet APIs proved to be a daunting task, especially considering the varied features across different regions. Despite these hurdles, our team persevered and successfully overcame each obstacle, emerging stronger and more knowledgeable.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of our proudest achievements is delivering a fully functional game within the allotted time frame, complete with various features and third-party integrations. Seeing our vision come to life and receiving positive feedback from users has been incredibly rewarding.

Some of our planned enhancements include the introduction of multiplayer functionality, elevating the game's graphics to new heights, offering greater personalization options for players, integrating different outfits for the character to unlock, and implementing rewarding ad experiences to earn additional in-game currency. With these enhancements and more on the horizon, GreenGlide is poised to continue its journey towards promoting sustainable travel practices while captivating gamers worldwide.
