Inspiration

Due to the recent bin strikes around the area, we are all accustomed to pollution and the lack of nice green space, and because of this, we would like to go to some better not rat-filled areas.

What it does

Based on the user's location, using AI our web app takes many different factors into account such as air pollution and the amount of green space around the area as well as pollen and ratings. With this information, points are placed on the interactive map which resemble the best places to go for a walk to clear your head. These points are also interactive so when they are clicked they will give you information such as opening times and pollen index.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

  • Sleep deprivation
  • Learning API documentation
  • Using multiple languages together
  • Many, many bugs
  • Making sure the GUI is tidy
  • Making sure the login is secure ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
  • Interactive map

  • Displaying opening times

  • Very functional drop-down list

  • Utilising the Haversine algorithm for distances around the globe

  • Displaying ratings on the places

  • Creating a ranking algorithm to decide on the best places to go (With our weightings)

what we learnt

We learnt new skills like how to interact with and request from API’s. We also gained the ability to collaborate in a team and communicate effectively to ensure we were all working towards the same goal. Our knowledge of flask web applications was also heightened as we used this for the foundations of the web application. We also learned how rough sleep deprivation is ☺.
