Inspiration:
We aim to create a game that is both entertaining and educational. The main setting is based on ocean pollution and trash decomposition. We linked these two ideas with a slumber party to make users experience different mini-games in a dream to raise users' awareness of environmental sustainability.
What it does
Players are first encountered by a scene of them waking up to a deep ocean scene, and they’re then encountered by the task of having to “decompose the trash” presented to them. Once the game is over, players learn about the meaning behind the scores, as they represent the total hours it takes for a certain type of trash to decompose. This mini game sets the concept of our game in which you’re being thrown into different dreams, and you have to navigate through mini-games/tasks which in turns engages you in actively participating in sustainability actions while also having fun.
How we built it:
We utilized both Unity and Figma to create our 2-D model.
Challenges we ran into
After thoroughly constructing the foundations of our game, we realized that with the limited time given, we would be unable to portray the elements we envisioned. We had trouble with Unity version control, so we were only able to work on one laptop with the time constraint.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As four beginners, taking a leap into the hackathon was already an accomplishment in itself. We were able to get past many of the challenges that we faced during the hackathon process.
What we learned
'Throughout this process, we understood the importance of relying on one another. In addition we were able to strengthen our abilities in front-end UI development and learning new applications like Unity and Figma.
What's next for Green Slumber
'Rather than having a 2-D model, we would like to make the game 3-D. This would allow the users' to have a more engaging and interactive space. Additionally, we would create more games surrounding environmental sustainability. For example, games regarding water conservation and renewable energy sources '
