Inspiration

Humans impact the physical environment in many ways: overpopulation, pollution, burning fossil fuels, and deforestation. Changes like these have triggered climate change, soil erosion, poor air quality, and undrinkable water.Between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250 000 additional deaths per year [WHO]. Nature is being destroyed at a rate tens to hundreds of times higher than the average over the past 10m years [UN Global Report]. These alarming statistics inspired me to come up with an idea that stands on the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and economic.

What it does

Businesses will assign eco-friendly challenges, the general public will complete them in return for rewards. We would gamify the process of achieving environmental progress, and motivate people and the green businesses to participate in mass environmental action. Our app would also help small green businesses to re-energize after the pandemic and would appeal to the public's desire to get outside and be active in the community after such a lengthy period of isolation due to Covid-19.

How we built it

Frontend- React Backend- Express/ Node.js Database- MongoDB Deployment- IBM cloud Kubernetes services (highly secure.) User Assistance(chatbot):- IBM Watson Assistant. Analysis of user data:- IBM Watson

Challenges we ran into

I was confused about the choice of services to use, but our mentor helped me with that.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A wireframe has been designed. Came up with an idea that would help promote the small green businesses, benefit the environment and also benefit the users to gain rewards.

What we learned

Learned the basics of Reactjs and Nodejs.

What's next for Green Scotia

The next step will be added features for monitoring water, electricity, and fuel consumption, and getting rewards accordingly for optimum usage.
