Inspiration

The inspiration for Green Lending emerged from a critical gap in the sustainable finance ecosystem. While Sustainability-Linked Loans have grown exponentially as financial institutions commit to environmental, social, and governance goals, the operational infrastructure to monitor and steward these loans has lagged behind. Lenders face significant challenges in tracking borrower progress against Sustainability Performance Targets, maintaining transparent audit trails, and distinguishing between genuine transition efforts and missed commitments.

Users

Lenders and Financial Institutions They include:

  • Commercial banks
  • Credit unions
  • Institutional lenders
  • Development finance institutions They use the platform to manage, monitor, and scale their sustainability-linked loan portfolios with smarter risk insights and prediction tools.

Credit Risk and Sustainability Teams Within those institutions, specialised teams use the platform to:

  • Track sustainability performance
  • Analyse transition progress
  • Generate reports and forecasts
  • Engage with borrowers constructively

Borrowers Companies and organisations that receive sustainability-linked loans will use the borrower portal to:

  • Submit sustainability data
  • Track their progress over time
  • Access resources that help them meet sustainability goals

Compliance, ESG and Audit Professionals These users rely on the platform to:

  • Ensure regulatory requirements are met
  • Validate data using blockchain verification
  • Produce audit-ready records and documentation

What it does

Green Lending is a desktop-based intelligence platform that operationalizes the entire lifecycle of Sustainability-Linked Loans. The platform enables lenders to monitor Sustainability Performance Targets across environmental, social, and governance KPIs at both individual loan and portfolio levels. Users can track borrower progress against agreed sustainability trajectories, including multi-year transition pathways that span from baseline measurements to target achievement dates.

How we built it

Manus ai was used to develop the prototype using modern web technology stack optimized for performance, scalability, and user experience. The frontend leverages React 19 with TypeScript for type safe component development, ensuring code reliability and maintainability. Tailwind CSS 4 provides a utility-first styling approach

Challenges we ran into

balancing feature richness with interface simplicity. Sustainability-linked lending involves complex, multi-dimensional data including KPI categories, verification statuses, timeline milestones, engagement logs, and compliance requirements. Presenting this information density without overwhelming users required careful information architecture, progressive disclosure patterns, and thoughtful use of tabs, cards, and collapsible sections.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully built a comprehensive, production-ready platform that addresses real pain points in sustainable lending operations. Green Lending demonstrates how thoughtful design and modern web technologies can transform complex financial workflows into intuitive, efficient user experiences.

What we learned

This project reinforced the importance of design-first development. Investing time in comprehensive design brainstorming, creating detailed design specifications, and committing fully to a cohesive design philosophy before writing code resulted in a more polished, differentiated product.

What's next for Green Lending

The immediate roadmap focuses on real-time data integration with Open Banking APIs and borrower management systems. Automatically ingesting SPT performance data from energy meters, waste management systems, emissions tracking platforms, and third-party verification providers will eliminate manual data entry, reduce errors, and enable truly real time monitoring and predictions. API integrations with major verification providers will automate status updates and document retrieval
