Inspiration

As University of Washington students, we were heavily inspired and awed by the initiatives that the UW has taken toward sustainability and composting. In particular, the widespread use of compostable utensils and plates in dining halls shows that composting can indeed be a viable option for not just UW students. In an effort to reach those outside the UW about the benefits of composting, we created this website.

What it does

We developed an informational and educational website complete with a mini-game to educate kids about the benefits of composting, fun facts about composting, and a compost bag locator.

How we built it

We mainly developed our code on Replit using Javascript, CSS, and HTML

Challenges we ran into

Although we had a list of locations that sell compost bags, provided by Seattle Utilities, this data was in a pdf which would have been hard to read for data in JS. As a result, we utilized AWS Q to better populate our database and make them into an array.
