Inspiration

So Wal was originally using this grade calculator as a way to keep track of his grades. The only problem is that this humble grade calculator was missing some very convenient features, such as a nicer UI, the ability to save your grades, and the ability to see your best/worst possible grade in the class. So he formed a team to tackle that challenge as a short weekend project.

What it does

Basically just https://thegradecalculator.com/ but with a nicer UI. Calculates your grade by using grade percentages and weights. Then it calculates the best possible grade you can get from the current time onward as well as the worst possible grade you can earn.

How we built it

Built with TypeScript React and uses Firebase for authentication/data storage.

Challenges we ran into

Doing a hackathon while being busy students was a challenge that all of us in the team had to struggle with.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We managed to make a solid tool with a really nice UI despite the lack of time to work on the project. Instead of trying to spend too much time on a gimmick and fail, we just focused on improving what was already good with the original grade calculator by adding a few comfort features on top of it.

What we learned

It's much easier to do a project when you plan to actually use the project, so there was almost no issue coming up with necessary features and the ideas were fairly simple to come up and work with.

What's next for GradeMe

We would like to add a courses feature (if we don't finish it by now) so that you can save grades between different classes.
