GoSustainYourself gives you a wide variety of tools such as a quiz to give you a personalized carbon emission score, a chatbot to give suggestions on living a more environment friendly lifestyle, and a map to give you options on nearby recycling centers! Our app also educates users based on relevant statistics to help paint the picture on what it takes to make a difference. We aim to spread awareness while making an engaging experience to reflect on your lifestyle.

How we built it

We used various technologies in building this app:

  1. Frontend: Next.js, Typescript, React
  2. Backend: Django, Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch
  3. APIs: MapBox API, Carbon Footprint API, Neural Networks, Gemini API,
  4. AI Models: Models used to make Prediction (reached an r^2 score of 0.96, which is excellent): 1. neural network 2. hist gradient boost 3. light gbm model 4. random forest model 5. XGBoost model. In the end, we average out the predictions result and get our ensemble predictions.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with cloud hosting with restrictions on the amount of data processing while also finding a web hosting solution that allowed Django and Auth0. Overall, we had to overcame issues on integrating multiple different features into one seamless application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of having a deployed website for people to access online and almost all the features are fully functional and worked as we've planned. This is also our first hackathon as teammates and being able to communicate as well as have fun made this experience unforgettable!

What we learned

We've learned many different technologies all in one project which really gave insight on what technologies worked really well and their tradeoffs.

What's next for GoSustainYourself

We would like to expand on the dashboard as well as make more personalized features for users to take advantages of signing into an account. It would be nice if we also have a chat feature between users to make reducing your carbon footprint as a group venture.
