Inspiration
- School's recycling club
- School article on how current recycling is inefficient
What it does
- Scans recycling bin and detects any trash
- Notifies user of any trash detection so that they can remove it and speed up the recycling process
How we built it
- We used Mitappinventor as the platform for our app
Challenges we ran into
- Displaying buttons and text icons at the appropriate times
- Turning the result from the trash detection system into a text icon that displays the results accurately
- Finalizing on what components will be included into the app and what needs to be taken out
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created an app that sufficiently scans and detects trash in a recycling bin
- Designed a well thought out appearance for the app
What we learned
- The process of recycling is tedious, and if not done correctly, even more so
- Troubleshooting code is a major part in the development of our app, and that allowed us to gain a better understanding of coding as a whole through this project
What's next for GoRecycle App
- Our app may be a probable solution for shortening the recycling process
- With proper resources and funds, GoRecycle can turn into a large scale project that not only scans recycling bins inside households, but also recycling trash cans and dumpsters outside of home
