Team A.R.E.A
Inspiration
We were inspired by the old classic RPG games and were interested in make one ourselves. Classic MMORPGs were games that were a genre that everyone in our group were nostalgic of and we wanted to use this opportunity to make one ourselves.
What it does
We created a basic singleplayer MMORPG where you, the player, get to slay goblins. This game is a stress reliever
How I built it
We used Unity as the game engine build the game and Blender to create the 3D models. We also used Visual Studio Code to code in C#.
Challenges I ran into
Because we are a team of four, we had to dedicate each person to the separate roles. Because of that, combining everything was somewhat difficult because we need to know what each person did specifically so that we can create a smooth game. The time limit was also quite an issue because we overestimated how much time we have. Towards the end, it was difficult to make sure everything goes together. We also experienced a lot of last minute issues and
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We created a fairly detailed goblin and player model in blender for something done in under 24 hours. We also have a working game that serves the basics of its purpose. We also learned a lot during this project since this was such an ambitious project.
What I learned
We learned how to collaborate on how to make a game. I believe that was the hardest part of the project. We each delegated separate parts of the project and combining them all at the end, especially with limited time, we very difficult since we need to know each others specific code and work. Andy also learned how to use the Unity platform and C# from scratch. This was his first experience making a game. This was also everyone's first experience in creating a big game together so there was aa big learning curve in collaboration. Andy Zheng worked on creating the models and the model animations, Eric Tong and Ryan Xu made sure the game works, and Andy Zhou created a basic UI for the game.
What's next for Goblin Hunting
Because of the limited time we had, we want to make the project better in the future. We can make improvements to the 3D models such as the goblins or the players. We also want to improve the game mechanics since we did not have a chance to implement everything we wanted such as a UI.
