Inspiration

In an urban dwelling with little space, one cannot grow all the green that is needed in the kitchen.

Yet one can try to grow some vegetables and herbs of daily use in smaller quantity such as tomatoes, brinjals, capsicums, radish and onion; salad greens like lettuce and cucumber and indispensable herbs like mint, coriander, garlic, ginger, curry leaf, oregano, green chilies, etc.

Citizens can grow vegetables in front, back yard and roof top area of their houses as well as in pots. Under this program nurseries of various seasonal, off-season and early sowing vegetables can grown at home.

What it does

It provides starter kits for beginners to help them start kitchen gardening. These starter kits may contain compost, manure, seedlings and seeds. It also provides a platform to hobbyists and professional growers to exchange their ideas, experiences and issues. Furthermore this platform bridge growers with consumers to sell their offerings in Uber like model. System intelligently maps consumers with growers in their vicinity having minimum distance.

How we built it

We build a web platform, which is mobile-friendly. It is built using angular material design which can efficiently renders the content on small screens.

Challenges we ran into

We faced some UI/UX problem while building the platform, which were resolved with the help of our mentors.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The portal where hobbyists can share their ideas, issues and experiences. The Federal Government (PARC) and Punjab Government (AARI) also started a drive in 2014 and 2011 respectively to promote Kitchen Gardening in which they distributes seeds and pamphlets, made Kitchen Gardening Clubs which helped newbies to start. But these didn't made a significant impact as there was no portal where growers can exchange their issues. We tried to solved this problem with our portal.

What we learned

Learned new ides which we may incorporate in future versions.
