Inspiration
With hybrid and remote work getting more popular, the potential for isolation and loss of community with those around us grows. At the same time, the gig economy flourishes with more people offering services with flexible availability. This leads to our idea of designing a web app that connects people in their local community together.
What it does
- user enters a job or a need
- user entry will be shown on the map, a string representation on the right hand side market place list
- Gigimon matches people with relevant needs and jobs within a fixed range of their location
- gig workers will receive a email notification
How we built it
- Frontend: built with React, Next.js and Google map API
- Backend: Python backend with MySQL database
Challenges we ran into
Picking an idea that everyone could contribute to Getting all the required packages installed on everyone's machines Connecting the frontend and backend code Splitting our time between prototype functionality, aesthetics, and telling a good story
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building a functional prototype website
- Creative and entertaining pitch video
What we learned
- how to structure a frontend-backend workflow for user interactions.
What's next for Gigimon
- Add real-time chat between users.
- Build a reputation and reward system (points, badges, leaderboards).
- Explore AI-driven matching to suggest the best worker for each job.
Built With
- css
- javascript
- next.js
- python
- sql
