Inspiration

Oftentimes, small bands and groups have difficulties finding opportunities to play. As musicians ourselves, we often find it difficult to find gigs as there are very few resources. In our town, gig opportunities must be found by driving to a vendor and asking them personally. At GigHunter, we aim to alleviate said obstacle by providing an easy way to connect with vendors.

What it does

The product is quite simple. It allows the user to interact with vendors to find opportunities to perform in their area. It also gives vendors an opportunity to advertise their gigs. We feature a simple but intuitive UI, with a plethora of features. These include an integrated map, and options to sort by distance and travel times to ensure that the user finds the most optimal gigs.

How we built it

We built GigHunter utilizing Firebase, Google Maps and Distance Matrix API's, and written in VSCode with simplicity in mind.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we faced would be the lack of documentation for integrating Google's Distance Matrix with Firebase. All implementations of the API had to be repeatedly tested till we finally discovered how to make it work. We also had to tiptoe around bugs within the API while learning Firebase all in one night.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some things we accomplished would be learning about the basics and usage of firebase in a very short amount of time.

What we learned

During this project we were introduced to Firebase as well as Google Services integrations such as Google maps API and Google Matrix services. We also learned about Html, and we used it to create our UI. We also learned about node.js. Using all of these tools, it allowed us to create a simple but innovative product, providing an expanded feature set and a pleasant experience for the users.

What's next for GigHunter

After all the challenges we encountered over the course of this hackathon, GigHunter unfortunately failed to meet our original criteria. One feature we were really hoping to accomplish was the interactive map, complete with searching and viewing venues outside of the search bar.

IMPORTANT NOTE

This application relies on music venues uploading their gigs by themselves. Doing a search right now would be fruitless as we used pseudo data to test our application.
